Sonata for Flute & Piano No. 1

CA$15.00

Four movement piece for flute & piano

Approx. 12 minute duration

Advanced Difficulty

Composed 2011-2012

Includes many extended techniques

Movements:

I - Andante

II - Blue Intermezzo

III - Cantilena

IV - Vivace con Fuoco

“This Sonata is an early work of mine that shows my eagerness to incorporate extended techniques into music in order to add colour, variety, and modernism to the piece. Each movement is woven into the next by the recapitulation of past and the suggestion of future material.
Andante has a dark and mysterious quality.
Blue Intermezzo adds a hint of lyrical blues to the darker mood of the previous movement.
Cantilena features a sweet melody moving through many key centres that gains its melancholic quality through the use of many minor chords while still based in major tonalities.
Vivace con Fuoco is a high energy finale where all of the emotions from the previous movements are released in this virtuosic duet for flute and piano.”
